At BrightonSEO October 2022 I delivered a talk titled “Can you trust AI with your content?”.  This looked at text generation systems like GPT-3 / OpenAI, user perceptions towards them, their current capabilities and adoption of such systems in the agency space. This page collates the resources used in this talk and provides other related resources. None of these lists are intended to be exhaustive, just to provide useful launch points for those interested in learning more.

The talk was based on three key pieces of original research.

  • User perceptions survey : Survey of 853 members of the public about perceptions to AI generated content. Summary data from this is included in the presentation slide deck.
  • Blind split test data : 289 blind tests comparing perceptions of content generated by humans and that written by AI. Summary data from this is included in the presentation slide deck.
  • Agency adoption survey : A survey of 64 Agency Owners regarding current adoption. Summary data from this is included in the presentation slide deck and  full findings are available here (free registration wall)

AI text generation tools

There are hundreds of these tools appearing, but the links below are to those I found to be most useful and used for the research I conducted. This is largely based on them producing higher quality output than other systems I tested.

  • OpenAI : The system that powers most publicly available GPT-3 tools
  • Writesonic * : AI writing tool used to produce much of the test copy. Very easy to use
  • Anyword * : AI writing tool used to produce much of the test copy. Highest scoring in my tests
  • Jarvis* : AI writing tool used to produce much of the test copy. Popular solution

AI image generation tools

Interested in AI image generation? You can also download all the images I used in the presentation (including all those that didn’t quite make it) here. The filenames show the prompts I used in Midjourney to create them: Download the zip file.

AI audio content generators

  • Aiva – AI for composing emotional soundtracks
  • Amper – Now owned by Shutterstock, but still free to use if you don’t download the output
  • Melodrive – Adaptive AI music generator aimed at livestreamers
